Smuuti Peach Cleansing Cream

The first product in the fire is the Peach Cleansing Cream from Finnish skincare-brand Smuuti💛

How did I end up with this?

So before I started this blog I was just searching around and I decided I wanted to look into more of Smuutis products. I was already using the Watermelon Dew Jelly Cream so I wanted to give something else a shot. I went to their website and found their quiz and thought it could be fun and a good starting point. The results of the quiz was a full routine, double cleansing included, and since I was running out of cleanser soon anyways I went with what it suggested for the cleansing step: The Peach Cleansing Cream.

What Smuuti Claims:

According to the product listing on Smuutiskin.com this cleanser is ““A gentle, water-based cleansing cream that removes dirt and light makeup without drying out the skin. Its low pH and mild surfactants cleanse your skin while caring for your skin barrier.” [1]

A Gentle cleanser should not disturb the pH-balance of the skin and not contain irritating ingredients like perfume, artificial dyes, alcohol and strong/harsh actives.[2]

“Cares for the skinbarrier”, what does that mean? In short terms within skincare it means that the product contains ingredients specifically aimed at strengthening and supporting the epidermis of your skin. This often includes ingredients like ceramides and antioxidants, as well as moisturizing ingredients like humectants, occlusives or emollients.[3]

Star Ingredients:

Peach Extract:

Listed as “Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit Extract” in the ingredient list. According to Smuutis own pages[4]: Peach extract is rich in vitamins A(Beta carotene, not Retinol) which can help protect your skin from environmental factors like polution and UV as well has potentially reducing skin aging and diseases[5], Vitamin B(peach fruit contain B1, 2, 3 ,6, 9 and 12[6]) and Vitamin C which is an antioxidant and is necessary in collagen production[7].

Smuuti specifically lists Lykopene as an antioxidant and is what gives the fruit its red colour. According to WebMD it is a powerfull antioxidant that can help protect cells from damage.[8]

Peach Ceramides:

Listed as “Phytoseryl Glucoside/Glucosylceramide”  in the ingredient list. Smuuti’s page explains how ceramides are beneficial to the skin[9], but not how Peach derived ceramides differ(seems a ceramide is a ceramide no matter how you source it). Ceramides are found in the fats and lipids between your skin-cells in the epidermis, they are responsible for keeping moisture from leaving your body through the skin(trans epidermal water-loss). Ceramides help maintain your skin's barrier function which is your first line of defence against the world. [10]

Here is an article researching the effects of “peach-derived glucosylceramide” specifically.

Glycerin:

Glycerin can also be referred to as “Glycerol” in ingredient lists, but they are the same thing. Glycerin is a wellknown skin-care ingredient and is a very effective humectant, meaning it is effective at keeping moisture in. It has also been proven to be a good moisturizer[11]

Fun Fact: Glycerin can also be used to make Nitroglycerin which is a key component in EXPLOSIVES[12]. If you have watched My Hero Academia then you might already have figured that one out.

Squalane:

Squalane is both an emolient and a humectant, meaning it not only emulsifies the oils and water in a product while also leaving the skin nice and smooth, it also is a skinlike ingredient(It can be found in the sebum of human skin) that is also great at keeping moisture in the skin and prevent trans epidermic waterloss[13].

Did I Enjoy It?

Sooo… What did I think about it? Well, I have some positive thoughts and some negative thoughts.

First off! I have never used a cleansing “cream” before so this was my first encounter with this type of formula. It kinda does feel like a cream, but also not? It is a soap that isnt sticky and doesnt foam. All in all texture wise I realy liked it! Since it isn’t a foaming cleanser it doesn’t slip around and was impossible to get into my eyes, which I appreciated as someone who doesn’t wear make-up often.

This is a VERY gentle cleanser to the point I dare say that the “30-secounds rule” is not a suggestion, but a requirement. Some cleansers do not need the full 30 seconds to do their job, but for me to feel like the Smuuty Cleansing Cream did its job, I could not use it for less. If I used it for say 15-20 secounds I could still feel my sebacious fillaments were not cleansed properly and my skin felt rough over them. Once I kept it to 30 seconds it did get to shine and my skin felt properly cleaned.

Once I got to finish cleansing; my skin did not feel dry. Maybe if I went like 5 - 10 minutes without following up with anything at all then my skin would start feeling tight. I was never left with the feeling of “OMG I must moisturise my skin NOW” , which has happened before and has never been fun, but the eventual tightness could also perhaps have been a result of splashing water on my face.

I decided to test the cleanser a bit with makeup and some “less-than-ideal” choices. First off I rarely use makeup, and I like a more natural look(exept my eyes) so getting my face-makeup off isn’t that hard, but it was so gentle I felt it needed the test. It does get makeup off, rather effortlessly actually, it may come as no surprise that my waterproof mascara wasn’t having it, but then again i didnt expect this cleanser to get it off.

My “less-than-ideal” choice was skipping a day or two of skincare. Having oil and gunk build up in my pores and not get out meant I had to work harder to get my skin feeling clean and to be honest my skin didn’t feel 100% clean until I cleaned it again the next morning, so a double cleanse would have been the best choice in a situation like that. The cleanser is also so gentle and hydrating I felt no issue with double cleansing then. My partner also let me know the next morning that my face smelled like wood-glue, but he also only said that once the whole month I had been using this cleanser.

So all in all: I found the formula very pleasing and easy to work with, it felt great on my skin. Once I figured out how long I needed to use it, it worked great and my skin felt clean and smooth. It wasn,t drying, probably at all, my skin felt smooth(again) and hydrated.

It may not be my new favourite, but is definitely a good one. If my skin needs a gentler treatment due to damage this will definetley be the cleanser I reach for. I will trust this cleanser to take care of and treat my skin if it needs the extra love and attention.

BTW let me know if you also experience the smell of wood-glue, because that wasn’t the cleanser!
